just popping in

Yes, we're alive. There's not enough hours in the day right now but in exactly a week it will all be over! Yay for this semester ending! So for now I will leave you with a song and my undying love for the taco truck down the street.

Sonnet XVII

i do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
i love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

i love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

i love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
i love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so i love you because i know no other way

thank this: where i does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as i fall asleep

I felt like such an art student today. It's the outfit, I think. I just felt all thrifted, and artsy. I found this vest at a consignment shop in my town, one that I actually frequented a lot until the salesgirl was rude to me. Terrible customer service much? Never happening again. Anyway, I love it, and I don't know why I don't wear it very often. I think it's just one of those quirky pieces that doesn't always fit the occasion. I've decided to wear every single piece of clothing, including accessories and shoes in my closet in the next year. Or else I have to get rid of it. Scary, ain't it? But I'm excited

We watched UP today for my film class, and it breaks my heart every time I watch it... But Disney-Pixar does that every time, wouldn't you say?

Steinbeck on Love

In November of 1958, John Steinbeck — the renowned author of, most notably, The Grapes of WrathEast of Eden, and Of Mice and Men — received a letter from his eldest son, Thom, who was attending boarding school. In it, the teenager spoke of Susan, a young girl with whom he believed he had fallen in love.

Steinbeck replied the same day. His beautiful letter of advice can be enjoyed below.

Dear Thom:

We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.

First—if you are in love—that’s a good thing—that’s about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don’t let anyone make it small or light to you.

Second—There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you—of kindness and consideration and respect—not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as unique and valuable. The first kind can make you sick and small and weak but the second can release in you strength, and courage and goodness and even wisdom you didn’t know you had.

You say this is not puppy love. If you feel so deeply—of course it isn’t puppy love.

But I don’t think you were asking me what you feel. You know better than anyone. What you wanted me to help you with is what to do about it—and that I can tell you.

Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it.

The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it.

If you love someone—there is no possible harm in saying so—only you must remember that some people are very shy and sometimes the saying must take that shyness into consideration.

Girls have a way of knowing or feeling what you feel, but they usually like to hear it also.

It sometimes happens that what you feel is not returned for one reason or another—but that does not make your feeling less valuable and good.

Lastly, I know your feeling because I have it and I’m glad you have it.

We will be glad to meet Susan. She will be very welcome. But Elaine will make all such arrangements because that is her province and she will be very glad to. She knows about love too and maybe she can give you more help than I can.

And don’t worry about losing. If it is right, it happens—The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.

Love,

Fa

Last night, I was insanely tired-tired enough to not want to socialize, and to want to go to bed at nine. I get tired so fast these days. But just as soon as I was leaving to buy food, I got caught by my dear friend Alex. She invited me over for hot chocolate with her and Catherine, and we watched The Princess and the Frog. It was the best night :)
We then spent a while looking at wedding stuff on pinterest. We are such girls....

These pants make me so happy. The end.
I had an urging to play my guitar last night, and I just started going crazy. I played all night, and now I'm learning a new song. It's called "The Dreamer" by the tallest man on earth. I love it. It might be my new favorite song.

Also, I'm almost done reading Les Miserables. It is so insanely good--Audrey and I are so excited for the movie coming out :)

Six Months

It doesn't actually feel like six months. It feels more like, three months. But a wonderful three months. Folks, being in love, it's like, for eighteen years you were on a boat, floating around, without knowing where to go. Seeing things, knowing things, doing things, but nowhere to stop, no anchor to hold you in one spot. And then one day, while you were sailing aimlessly you happened to bump into another lost soul. And suddenly, you have a port. Suddenly, you have a reason to stay in one place.
It's amazing.

Lessons Outside

Details:
Dress-Thrifted
Belt-Papaya
Necklace-Icing
Heels-F21

The weather was so wonderful and glorious today that we, meaning Kelly, Jessica, Jenny, and I decided that Sunday school should be outside. So I guess technically we skipped.... no big deal or anything. We just wanted to have class outside, and so we made it happen. Possibly the best decision we've ever made. We got inspired to ride bikes, and we decided we were all going to wear colored pants. A lot. We may have also seen the hottest guy at BYU walk right through our unsuspecting paths. Amazing. We spent the rest of church indoors, but that little outdoor break was the best :)

Also, check out my way stylish friends:

Alex, the one in the blazer, takes my pictures a lot, and Diana, the one in my skirt, is just a delight. I love both of them, and I honestly think I would be a loser without either one of them.

The End.

Walking

We enjoyed the sunshine today by having a little walk by the falls. It was lovely, and Dane wanted to teach me how to skip rocks. It was a failure. I suck at all things involving throwing. If I didn't have to work today I would be out there in the sunshine right now. But alas, I do work, and I can't just hang out outside all day long :(

Funny thought: I think you know it's true love when you can compare each other's acne. Lovely, right?
