Today gave me a lot to think about. My mother sent me something in the mail. Call it a road map for my life, if you will. And the thing is, this document made me rethink a lot of my choices. One big change I want to make is to be more grateful for the things I have that others don't.
For example, I am grateful for my sweet roommate Diana, and her ability to always say what needs to be said. I just love her.
I've been in love with all things Audrey Hepburn since I was a child, and my mother sat me down to watch Sabrina, and Roman Holiday, Funny Face, and Breakfast at Tiffany's with her. She planted the seed of sophistication in my heart, and now, I'm beyond hope. I'm obsessed. Audrey is my icon. The end.
So really, my number one favorite of all her movies is probably Funny Face. But Breakfast at Tiffany's is the one that has had the biggest impact on my personality. If I could be Holly Golightly, living my life in New York, being a sophisticated drifter, not letting anyone own her... I just love it. I love that she's eccentric, and scared, and a big phony. I want to have a couch made of half a bathtub. I want the sweet writer who falls head over heels in love with me.
But, alas, I am in college, studying to be a filmmaker. Because I'm just that obsessed with movies. And I want to create the sort of dreams that girls like me will always have.
Another thing I love about that movie: It gave me the greatest philosophy I've ever heard.
"It's useful being top banana in the shock department"
And this is lovely Diana, who takes my pictures :)
Shoes-F21 Other girl: This is my roommate Diana. And I honestly don't know where she got any of this...
You remind me of the babe What babe The babe with the power What power The power of voodoo Who do? You do Do what Remind me of the babe
Can I just say I love this movie with all my heart?
I just rewatched it last night with my friend (the boy with the knowledge). It made my little heart sing! He pointed out how terrifying the birds in that movie are. They are honestly, awful, seeing as they pop off their heads and pull out their eyeballs... that's mildly horrifying. Just sayin.
But otherwise, a perfectly enjoyable movie I might say :)
And after that, we listened to Bright Eyes, before we decided to watch another movie. The movie?
Say Anything. I can't even handle how happy that movie makes me. I start tearing up instantly when Lloyd Dobler holds the boombox up to her windows. I love it...
To me, it's a glorious day when it rains and pours all up in Happy Valley, UT. I'm not a big fan of the desert. Most people seem to love the warm, gross air. I prefer the slightly blustery, rainy, overcast days. For a few days, I was craving sun, when winter seemed like it would never end. Then I remembered I dislike summer, and think fall is perfect. So that ended that pretty fast. Right now all I want to do is buy duck boots, and wear my maxi skirts, and cuddle up under a blanket with a chunky knit sweater on. That's it folks.
Lately, I've been contemplating the idea of moving to DC after I graduate. I can just imagine how fun it would be to live there. Not that it's a plan, but I just keep seeing other bloggers there, and I see how beautiful it is, and I find myself wanting to be there. Or New York even. But NY, although I love it, is a little bit too fast-paced for me, maybe. Or maybe just too crowded? I don't know. I'm all a flutter with new ideas. WHICH reminds me. I have a great idea for a new creative video that I will be making very shortly. I hope you're excited! Because I am :)
Love, Sarai
PS:
If you feel the spirit today, be sure to leave a holler in the comments, because this song gets me every time
The weather was so wonderful and glorious today that we, meaning Kelly, Jessica, Jenny, and I decided that Sunday school should be outside. So I guess technically we skipped.... no big deal or anything. We just wanted to have class outside, and so we made it happen. Possibly the best decision we've ever made. We got inspired to ride bikes, and we decided we were all going to wear colored pants. A lot. We may have also seen the hottest guy at BYU walk right through our unsuspecting paths. Amazing. We spent the rest of church indoors, but that little outdoor break was the best :)
Also, check out my way stylish friends:
Alex, the one in the blazer, takes my pictures a lot, and Diana, the one in my skirt, is just a delight. I love both of them, and I honestly think I would be a loser without either one of them.
